Half of July 2016

The month started off with me turning 36. I don't have pictures of that day because I was horribly sick. We had made plans though. Jon had made a table for one of Chris's clients and needed to deliver it that same weekend. He would come down on my birthday, we'd go celebrate and then he'd deliver the table the next day. When I woke up on my birthday I knew our day was not going to go as planned. Ben and the kids had planned a really sweet surprise as well. They had made a "choose-your-own-adventure" day with hand drawn cards depicting all the activities I could choose from. Jon still came down and hung out with Ben and the kids while I quarantined myself. Everyone tried their best to make me feel better though. Jon went and got me sorbet and chicken noodle soup, friends came over and waved from a distance, my parents brought a cake, lots of texts and well wishes, all-in-all I felt very loved.

We spent our 4th of July with friends. We had a potluck at a park, did fireworks at my parent's house and then walked to a park to see some big fireworks.

I usually do friend birthday parties for the kids every other year. This was Avery's year and she wanted a Paris themed party. We had a little photo booth, made Eiffel charm necklaces and lollipops and listened to Parisian Cafe music. Since we invited both school and church friends, Avery decided she wanted to do a book exchange, that way everyone got to take a new book home. After all her friends went home we cuddled up and watched The Little Mermaid.

Celebrated the Queen Mum's birthday by finding a lovely British pub in Portland.

If anyone knows me, they know I don't like camping. Wouldn't you know it, I had TWO "opportunities" to camp this summer? The first was our YW retreat. The girls wanted a high adventuresque experience so we planned one for them. We had three days and two nights of canoeing, camp fires, cooking, card games, hair braiding, dance parties, sing-a-longs, hiking, waterslide building, bonding fun. The girls helped pick the theme and Ben designed the shirts (and silk screened them and didn't balk when I told him he got to wear one). I don't feel like I'm SUPER high maintenance but one thing I can't compromise on is my sleep quality. Ben brought an air mattress, a foam topper and rigged a battery so I could have my fan. At least he knows who he married! It really was a great experience. Every night we would have a devotional and I loved just watching these girls interact and grow closer. It is such an amazing group of young women.

While Ben and I were chaperoning the retreat, Jon and Betsy had our kids. The were spoiled rotten and didn't miss us at all, I'm sure.
