Back on James' birthday, Ben and I had planned on taking James out for a day all for himself. Due to weather conditions we had to postpone until this week. We got a sitter for the girls and headed out.
We started out at the movie theater where we saw Bolt in 3D. James thought it was not only a great movie but that it was made extra special by his "superhero" glasses. At one point he totally reached out in front of him to grab what was on the screen.

One of the things James wanted for his birthday was a goldfish. I can handle a goldfish, at least I think I can. As long as it's not a dog! I had no idea there were so many different kinds of goldfish, and I'm really glad he didn't want the one with the freaky huge eyes. He picked a nice, normal looking fish and decided to call him JJ (after J.J. Putz, but that's a completely different story).

After the pet store we went to James' favorite restaurant - Red Robin. James basked in the attention that only a single child could get and Ben and I actually got to eat our food while it was still warm!

After dinner we went home to get JJ acclimatized into his new home. The girls had fun without us and we're definitely going to make a tradition out of this.

What a great idea to give him a day alone with you! I'm glad I can learn these parenting ideas from such smart family members!
Gosh, what a great idea!!!! I wonder if we could split the day between the two of them? Things get so complicated with twins when they have te share their day. I'll need to think on that one. :) So glad you got some one on one time with your little man!
