Avery's Baptism

When I was pregnant with Avery I met someone who had used her wedding dress to make a blessing dress for her daughter. I loved that idea but already had the blessing dress that my sister and I were blessed in and wanted to use that for her. I decided, instead, to use my wedding dress to make a baptism dress for my girls. I was never going to wear it again and had no hope of my girls wanting to wear it when they got married.

Luckily for me I have an amazing seamstress for a mother-in-law who took this task to heart. She came out for a visit right after school had let out for the summer and spent days working on this dress. It turned out even better than I expected.

Avery shared her day with two other kids in our ward. The room was packed and filled to the brim with love and support. My dad spoke about baptism and how we take upon ourselves the name of Christ. My brother Jonathan had collected three pieces of driftwood, one for each kid, and had carved their name on one side and CHRIST on the other. It was such an unexpected thing that I still tear up thinking about it. The other parents keep telling me how much that meant to them and how their kids treasure it.

Matthew could not get enough of Briella
You can't have a Mormon function without food and there was no disappointment there. This was only a portion of what was offered. My dear friend took on most of that - I just brought cake stands!

I didn't think about it until it was too late - but this was the majority of the family that came to support Avery. Jon and Betsy and the boys had already left.

I can't say enough good things about this girl. She is sweetness personified and she seemed to mature even more overnight after getting baptized.
