The whole story

We went into the hospital at 7 am to get induced since I was already 6 days overdue. The Pitocin (a synthetic hormone for inducing labor) got started at 7:45, my water broke at 8:30 and it was on. The contractions started coming hard and fast, so fast that they turned off the Pitocin but that didn't slow them down at all. I got an epidural at 9:30, had a nice little nap (thank heavens for anesthesiologists) and prepped myself for a long day. Both of my previous labors had been around 10 hours so I was mentally prepared for that, what I wasn't prepared for was when the nurse came in at 11 am and told me that I was at an 8. I started "trial pushing" at about 12:30 but Brie's heart-rate was going down a bit so they had me stop and put me on oxygen. Once she was stable I started pushing again, around 1:10 and she was born at 1:15 pm.

When she came out she was purple, and just barely crying. She sounded like a little cat. After a couple minutes of me holding her the nurses took her and put her on oxygen. She pinked up pretty quick after that. We wanted James and Avery to see her first so Ben went to the waiting room where the kids were with my parents and Bethany. They walked in and said hi to me and then the next words out of James' mouth were "where's my present?" We made the mistake of telling him that his new little sister had brought him a present and that was all the two kids cared about. They could not get those presents opened fast enough and would not pay attention to anything but them.

Briella is, so far, a completely calm, sleepy baby. She nurses really well, is fine with kids pawing at her and has melded into our family like she has been here all along. The kids are awesome helpers, it's like I have a team of butlers ready to do my every whim. They are both completely besotted with her, they love holding and kissing her.

Luckily Ben's going to be home for the next week so I have some time to get used to having three kids. So far things are going great and we count ourselves blessed that we have such wonderful, healthy, happy kids.

If you want even more pictures go to our website at www.nickiandben.com! I'll have more there in the next few days.
