How Does This Blog Thing Work (Ben)

I suppose, in my open and admitted blog-naivete, that any good blog ought to start with an explanation. One doesn't just start to blog after all. It isn't (yet) an obvious right-of-passage, or a mandatory doctor-ordered exercise. So why do I speak out on our life where there was previously nothing?

Surprisingly it's largely due to guilt. A few years ago, for Mother's Day, or a birthday, I gave to my wife a cute little book in which I'd chronicle the growth of our children; filling it's pages with records of steps, and funny first words - remembering the kind of things that would make us laugh over the years, or helping us recall the fine details of our life. But, like any good husband, I neglected the "action" part of that gift. Months built upon weeks. Then years. And that empty book, now lost, stands as a token in my memory of my own selfish time-wasting - my reluctance to give memory to my family for whatever reason.

But now I stab convenience. And offer my time and insight to my family, and any passing viewer; to enjoy our view of our life. I hope this makes my wife happy. I know it will make me happy, one day when I can look back and relish in the recorded detail of a memory lost to the depth of life.

Yay! You have to start somewhere. And personally, in this ultimately lazy world, I love the ability to keep tabs on my friends and family without even having to lift up the phone. The next important step is to sign up for Google Reader and put my, Jennie's and anyone else's blogs you like to read in your subscription area so you'll know when we post and can comment. I'm adding you to mine right now! Welcome to the blogosphere!

Great first blog, Ben. But it's been about a month. When do we get the next installment. Surely something has happened in your life, like your last scout campout, your kudos at the last insurance conference, the way Avery has learned to "shake her bootie" on video, the tremendous growth of un-named baby girl two. come on, Bro, give us some news!
